🫐 Start Fresh for Best Results

Before setting up your Fridge Friend, it’s a great idea to give your fridge a fresh start! A quick cleanout helps remove any expired or forgotten items, ensuring you get the most out of your new system. Wipe down the shelves, check for old produce, and make room for a more organised and efficient fridge.

For the best experience, we recommend installing Fridge Friend after your next grocery shop. This way, you’ll start with fresh produce that can be properly monitored from day one—rather than older items already on their way out. A well-organised, clean fridge sets the stage for less waste, longer-lasting food, and smarter shopping habits!

🌎 Eco-Friendly Fridge Cleaning Tips

1. Use Natural Cleaners – Skip the harsh chemicals and make a simple, non-toxic cleaner by mixing equal parts white vinegar and water. For tougher stains, sprinkle baking soda on a damp cloth and scrub gently.

2. Avoid Disposable Wipes – Instead of single-use wipes, use paper towels, or reusable cloths that can be washed and reused.

3. Clean the Seals—Wipe down the rubber door seals with vinegar to remove grime and ensure a tight seal, which helps improve energy efficiency.

4. Compost Old Food—If possible, compost expired or spoiled produce instead of tossing it in the bin to reduce landfill waste.

A clean, fresh fridge makes organising easier and helps your Fridge Friend work more effectively—giving your groceries the longest shelf life possible while cutting down on waste!

 

🔧 Setup & Activation Instructions –

Read Before You Begin

Before activating your Fridge Friend, please read this carefully to avoid damaging your filter. Incorrect activation can overheat the mineral, melt the inner bag, or void your warranty.


🌀 Step 1: Shake to Wake

Before microwaving or refrigerating, give your Fridge Friend a solid shake. The mineral inside may have settled during shipping and needs to be redistributed.

 

🔥 Step 2: Activate – Choose ONE of the following methods:

 

✅ Option 1: Microwave Method (Fastest)

⚠️ Important Microwave Safety Rules:

  • DO NOT exceed 15 seconds.

  • Use a folded paper towel underneath to absorb any moisture.

  • Microwave ONE unit at a time only.

  • Based on a 1,000-watt microwave. Adjust time down for higher wattage models.

  • No turntable or using a combi-microwave? Heat for just 10 seconds max.

  • Never reuse the same paper towel. Damp towels can cause overheating or damage.

🚫 Do not microwave Fridge Friend without following these rules — this may cause melting, leakage, or void your warranty.

 

✅ Option 2: Oven Method (Gentle & Safe)

  • Preheat your conventional oven to 60°C–70°C (140°F–160°F).

  • Place your Fridge Friend on a dry baking tray or plate.

  • Heat for up to 30 minutes.

  • Do not exceed 70°C.

 

✅ Option 3: Sun Method (Eco-Friendly)

  • Place in direct sunlight (e.g. windowsill, dashboard) for at least 3 hours.

  • Ensure it’s not inside a sealed container (airflow helps the process).

 

❄️ Step 3: Let It Cool

  • After heating, allow Fridge Friend to cool down fully before placing it in your fridge.

  • Cooling time varies, but allow at least 15–30 minutes until it’s at room temperature.

 

 

🧊 Fridge Friend Installation Instructions

Step 1: Shake Before Use

Give your Fridge Friend a good shake before placing it in the fridge — the mineral inside may have settled during shipping and needs to be redistributed.

Step 2: Positioning Your Fridge Friend

You can use the supplied Velcro tape to attach your Fridge Friend to a smooth surface inside your fridge, or simply place it free-standing.

✅ Important:

  • Make sure there’s good airflow around the unit.

  • If you’re using more than one, place one in the top section and one in the crisper drawer for best results.

Step 3: What to Expect

Over the first few days, the mineral will begin absorbing odours and excess ethylene gas. It may take up to 48 hours to activate fully.

👃 You’ll likely notice fewer smells — this means Fridge Friend is working.

🍎 It’s also reducing ethylene gas, which slows down the ripening process of your fruit and vegetables and helps them stay fresh for longer.

 

🔄 Monthly Maintenance Instructions

To keep your Fridge Friend working at its best, we recommend a quick monthly reset. We’ll send you a reminder by email each month.

 

⚠️ IMPORTANT WARNING

Microwaving your Fridge Friend for too long, at too high a setting, or without a paper towel can cause the inner bag to overheat, melt, and leak mineral.

This will damage the unit and void your warranty.

Please follow the instructions below carefully.

 

Step 1: Shake to Reactivate

Remove your Fridge Friend from the fridge and give it a good shake to redistribute the mineral inside.

Step 2: Choose ONE Reset Method

⚡ Microwave Method (Fastest)

  • Place Fridge Friend on a folded paper towel in your microwave.

  • Heat for no more than 20 seconds (based on a 1,000-watt microwave).

  • If using a combi microwave or one without a turntable, heat for just 10 seconds.

Microwave Guidelines:

  • One unit at a time only

  • Fresh paper towel each time (never reuse)

  • Never exceed the recommended time

🔥 Oven Method (No Microwave? No Problem!)

  • Preheat to 60–70°C (140–160°F)

  • Place Fridge Friend on a dry tray or plate

  • Heat for up to 30 minutes

  • Do not exceed 70°C

☀️ Sun Method (Eco-Friendly)

  • Place in direct sunlight (e.g. windowsill, dashboard) for at least 3 hours.

  • Ensure it’s not inside a sealed container (airflow helps the process).

❄️ Step 3: Cool Before Use

Let it cool down to room temperature — this may take 10–15 minutes.

🧊 Step 4: Return to Fridge

Once cooled, place Fridge Friend back in your fridge. That’s it!

⏳ Longevity Tip

Monthly maintenance resets the filter for another 30 days and helps your Fridge Friend last for at least 3 years with normal use.
