Each Fridge Friend is designed to operate continuously for 3 years, with simple monthly refreshes (sunlight, oven, or microwave) that help reactivate the natural minerals inside.

Over time, though, as the minerals work hard to absorb ethylene gas, moisture, bacteria, and odours, they naturally begin to degrade and lose efficiency.

This is normal and expected, which is why we recommend replacing the inner mineral insert every 3 years to restore peak performance.

Open your Fridge Friend, remove the damaged or old Freshness Refill, and replace it with the new Freshness Refill.

How to install your Freshness Refill:

1. Open your existing Fridge Friend by:
2. Either undo the screw at each end of the unit, if it has screws, or gently pry open the unit (on the long side) if it doesn't have screws.
3. Remove the damaged Freshness Refill and dispose of the mineral in your garden or pot plant. You can also recycle the bag.
4. Place the new Freshness Refill into your Fridge Friend and close and secure the casing.

Initial Setup:

**Please be sure to give your Fridge Friend a good shake before you place it in the microwave or fridge, as the mineral may have settled during transport**

 Activation: Place it on a paper towel in your microwave. 

**Microwave for no more than 15 seconds only (otherwise, damage may occur)**. Time based on a 1,000-watt microwave oven.

If you have more than one Fridge Friend, please microwave separately and use a fresh paper towel each time, as excess moisture may damage the filter. 

Or you can place your Fridge Friend(s) in a conventional oven at a low temperature of 60-70 °C (140-160°F) for up to 30 minutes.

Allow your Fridge Friend to cool down to room temperature, which may take 15 minutes or longer.
